It is a truly wonderful thing to be given a look into the inner worlds of celebrities and see the most private spaces usually reserved for family and friends; it gives fans an intimate perspective into the lives of their favourite celebrities. Recently, Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu opened the doors to her Denmark home in an exclusive interview to Hindustan Times.

The actress, who has been splitting time between Mumbai and Odense, Denmark since her marriage to Mathias Boe, revealed that the couple was in the process of finishing up restorations on their century-old property.

A look into the vintage beauty of Taapsee’s 107-year-old home

According to the Hindustan Times report, the actress spoke about her overseas residence for the first time emphasizing its historical value and how much she wanted to preserve its original essence, “It is a huge house that was built around 1907. There’s a lot of history involved and we wanted to restore as much as possible,” She continued to say that the home came with decades old vintage furniture as well such as lamps, paintings and chandeliers and was designed in a classic Danish style.

Transportation and labour is extremely costly in Denmark so the couple actually requested the previous owners to allow them to keep everything that came with the house. “Labour is extremely expensive in Denmark and transportation, storing things in warehouses costs a bomb so people prefer to sell their stuff. We were lucky to inherit all the vintage lamps, furniture, paintings and chandeliers…” she said. Newer elements to the house include paintings by Indian artists, bits and baubles from travelling, a staircase and additional bathrooms.

Taapsee revealed that renovation efforts were further helped along by Mathias’s father, a former architect. The interior decorations are primarily being decided upon by the actress and her in-laws she revealed.

Speaking on their tastes she said, “Mathias and I have some common tastes but in some matters we agree to disagree, However he’s left most of the interiors to me and his parents, who were also kind to let me decide. However, I discuss with everybody before making any decision.”

Taapsee on introducing new traditions in Denmark

In her interview with Hindustan Times, Taapsee also opened up about introducing new traditions to her husband’s family. In India, it is quite commonplace for elderly parents to live with their adult children however it is still a novel idea in Denmark or any other European country. She shared that Mathias’s parents lived in the same home as them although they have their own space on the ground floor. She called it the “most Indian thing” that she had introduced into the house.

She said, “What is strange for Danes but normal for us Indians is that Mathias’s parents live with us, they have their own space on the ground floor, their bedroom, living room, dining and lounge area. It’s the most Indian thing I brought into the house and it took us a while to convince them because it’s not so common to live with grownup kids in Danish culture. Since we keep travelling we wanted someone to come home to, and it’s a beautiful feeling, it truly feels like home.”

Taapsee Pannu married former badminton player Mathias Boe in 2023 after eleven years of dating and nine years of being engaged. The couple met in 2013 at the first edition of the Indian Badminton League where Pannu was the brand ambassador of Hyderabad Hotshots and Boe was playing for Awadhe warriors. They opted for a court marriage in 2023 and then got married in a traditional wedding ceremony in Udaipur the following year.
