After months of anticipation and speculation, HBO has now officially announced the principal cast of its upcoming Harry Potter reboot. Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton stepping into the shoes of Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout portraying Ron Weasley. Though their names may not yet ring bells for viewers, these young actors bring unique credentials from stage and screen. In this article, we find out who the new Harry, Ron and Hermione are.
Who is Dominic McLaughlin, the actor who plays Harry Potter?
The role of the Boy Who Lived, immortalised by Daniel Radcliffe, will now be carried forward by Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin. Much like Radcliffe when he was cast in 2000, McLaughlin is a relative newcomer to the industry. While this marks his most high-profile project to date, he is no stranger to a film set. McLaughlin recently worked on the upcoming comedy Grow, a Sky production featuring Nick Frost, who has also been cast as Hagrid in the rebooted Harry Potter series. The two actors will now reunite onscreen, though under rather different circumstances.
Who is Arabella Stanton, the new Hermione Granger?
Among the newly announced trio, Arabella Stanton has the most experience. She’s already made her mark on the West End, earning accolades for her performances in Matilda: The Musical and Starlight Express. With her background in theatre and her screen presence, Stanton has been widely regarded as a standout in the show’s early promotional material.
Taking on the role that made Emma Watson a household name, Stanton will be introduced to a global audience for the first time in this project. HBO’s official promo image, a still featuring the young trio standing in a misty field, has already generated buzz among fans. Some have even described Stanton’s casting as “the strongest of the three.”

Who is Alastair Stout, the new Ron Weasley?
Alastair Stout’s casting has prompted particular interest among fans for one simple reason – his striking resemblance to Rupert Grint. With no prior acting credits to his name, this role will mark Stout’s professional acting debut.
While Stout’s career is just beginning, Grint has gone on to appear in a variety of television and streaming projects following his Harry Potter run, including Snatch, The ABC Murders, and Apple TV+’s Servant.
The supporting cast of Harry Potter reboot series
Before the core trio, HBO had confirmed a strong supporting ensemble, with John Lithgow portraying Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu taking on the role of Severus Snape.
As for the casting of Lord Voldemort, that announcement remains under wraps. However, Ralph Fiennes, the actor who originally brought the Dark Lord to life, wants Cillian Murphy to step into the role.
