Punjab floods: After an intense spell of monsoon in Northern India, Punjab is among the worst-affected regions. As rivers reach the brim and overflow into villages, it has not only damaged crops but also homes, leaving several families stranded in the rubble. While the residents deal with the calamity, several voices for help have sounded their intent to help.
From Bollywood celebrities to political leaders, several residents of the nation have come forward to ease the distress of Punjab. Diljit Dosanjh, now a global name, also paid homage to the state. Calling it “wounded, but not defeated,” Dosanjh rolled out a heartfelt message for the victims.
As per reports, he has adopted 10 villages in the Majha region, aiming to provide long-term rehabilitation, solar power support, and essential supplies. Here are other celebrities stepping up and extending a hand for support for the calamity-struck Punjab.
Sonu Sood
A beacon of hope in the times of crisis, Sood has been vocal about several social issues. He was prompt to set up a helpline number through his foundation. “Punjab is my soul,” he said, ensuring that he would extend help to every displaced family. His sister, Malvika Sood, has been distributing aid in relief campsm in person.
Satinder Sartaj
Famous Punjabi singer and artist, Satinder Sartaaj, has been quite active since floods struck Punjab. An Express report claimed that he had distributed ration, cattle feed, and green fodder in regions like Ajnala, Ferozepur, and Fazilka. In a statement, he said,“ We must all become a pillar of strength for our people in these trying times.”
As the Punjabi singer community unites, Karan Aujla arranged rescue boats and supplies, Gippy Grewal sent cattle feed, while Babbu Mann, Ranjit Bawa, and Sunanda Sharma pledged support through donations and on-ground relief in Punjab’s Majha.
Randeep Hooda
Randeep Hooda visited Gurdaspur to support relief efforts alongside the Global Sikhs Foundation. Describing the situation as “heartbreaking,” he appealed to people across India to come forward and help.
SRK to Vicky Kaushal: Digital support increases
Those who could not reach on site, extended their support online. Via social media posts and online appeals, several Bollywood actors were sensitised to the matter.
Shah Rukh Khan took to X (formerly Twitter) and said, “My heart goes out to those in Punjab impacted by these devastating floods. Sending prayers and strength… The spirit of Punjab shall never break.”
Sanjay Dutt, the Baaghi 4 star, wrote, “The devastation caused by the floods in Punjab is heartbreaking. I will support in every way I can. May Babaji bless and protect all in Punjab.”
Others, including Kapil Sharma, hailing from Amritsar, expressed their grief and wrote on social media, “Feeling heartbroken seeing my Punjab suffering due to floods. My prayers are with all the families affected. Stay strong, we are with you.”
Several other personalities, such as Karan Johar, Bharti Singh, Suniel Shetty, and Sidharth Malhotra, expressed their wishes after the disaster-struck Punjab was submerged under floods.
Actor Shehnaz Gill even announced a postponed release of the movie, Ikk Kudi, which was set to release on September 19. Gill updated via a post on social media, attributing the “severe flood situation” as the cause for the delay. “We feel it is our responsibility to stand with our people during these challenging times,” she wrote.
