As we celebrate Father’s Day today, June 15, filmmaker Karan Johar opened up in an emotional tribute, celebrating his journey as a single parent while also remembering his late father, producer Yash Johar.
The 53-year-old director and producer took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message alongside a collage featuring joyful moments with his twins, Yash and Roohi. In the post, Johar described his decision to become a single parent as one of the most fulfilling choices of his life.

“Some decisions are impulsive, some decisions are strategised and some are just blessed…. My decision to be a single parent has been the single most emotionally satisfying decision I could have ever made… the answer to my every prayer to the universe…,” Johar wrote.

The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director reflected on the unique challenges and rewards of parenting, especially as a single father. He recalled the advice he received – ranging from reading parenting books to listening to podcasts and seeking guidance from other parents. However, Johar emphasized that there is no universal rulebook for raising children, especially in his position.

“I know I will falter, fumble and fall… But the abundant love always makes me eventually rise… Today I celebrate myself… for completing my own half existence with the presence of my blessings Roohi and Yash… they filled a deep void and created some more space for love in my aura and heart,” he shared.

Alongside celebrating his own parenthood journey, Johar also took a moment to honour his father, the late Yash Johar, who was a respected producer and founder of Dharma Productions. In a separate post, Karan shared a black-and-white throwback photo of the two, likely taken on a film set.

Expressing gratitude for the life lessons passed down by his father, he wrote, “Thank you for giving me the courage to feel deeply. Thank you for giving me the courage to show these feelings on the biggest screens possible.”
As Bollywood stars and everyone else celebrate their bonds with their fathers today, Johar’s post about being a single parent is a reminder of love.
