Who is ‘Father Figure’ based on?
The title and melody of Swift’s “Father Figure” intentionally references George Michael’s iconic 1987 hit of the same name. While that version portrayed a man seeking a nurturing, protective role in a relationship, Taylor’s version takes a dark turn, as per several speculations.
Fans have find the song to be an allusion to Scott Borchetta, the former CEO of Big Machine Records, who was Swift’s early mentor but later became a contentious figure over her masters’ rights.
