Dies Irae, the Malayalam horror thriller that released on October 31, has captivated audiences with its well-timed jump scares, brilliant visuals, and a power-packed performance by the film’s lead, Pranav Mohanlal.

The film seems to have impressed both critics and the masses alike, as the collections continue to grow over the weekdays after it became the third biggest Malayalam opener of 2025.

Written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, known for making cult horror movies like Bhoothakalam (2022) and Bramayugam (2024), the Halloween release collected Rs 4.7 crore on its first day. On its first weekend, the film drew a huge crowd as it quickly added Rs 5.7 crore to the collections on Saturday. With positive word of mouth growing, the film witnessed a bigger haul as the numbers rose to Rs 6.35 crore on Sunday.

After touching its peak, the earnings dipped from Monday onwards as the horror thriller amassed Rs 3 crore. Tuesday collections stood at Rs 2.6 crore, a 13% decrease compared to Monday. On Wednesday, the early estimates place the film’s earnings at Rs 2.25 crore approx., which shows it has been performing steadily at the box office.

The total domestic earnings of the film stands at Rs 25 crore, which has placed it at eighth position on the list of top 10 highest grossing Malayalam movies of 2025.

Pranav Mohanlal has been receiving rave reviews for his performance. “Pranav Mohanlal delivers a career-best, subtly restrained performance as Rohan, a man haunted by his own moral decay after a friend’s suicide,” read an X review. Known to be selective, Pranav Mohanlal dives deep into his characters, and has built a loyal fanbase over the years.

When it comes to choosing his films, Pranav believes in balancing his work with other aspects of life. Being the son of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, expectations are high from him but his mom Suchitra shared that his fans have got used to him doing “only one film every two years.”

Last year, Suchitra shared how Pranav was working at a farm in exchange for food  and accommodation rather than money and that he values such experiences more than money and took care of horses and goats during his time there. Once again Pranav has left Kerala and it’s uncertain what his next project would be.

Pranav started his career with Onnaman in 2002 wherein he played the younger version of his father Mohanlal’s character. For his role in Punarjani, the actor went on to the win the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. Deepening his understanding of the film craft, Pranav worked as an assistant director for Jeethu Joseph in Papanasam (2015) and Life of Josutty (2015), before debuting as a lead actor in Aadhi in the year 2018. The man of many talents, he is also a playback singer and songwriter.
