Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, one of the biggest movie releases of 2025, is set to release on Friday, December 5. Fuelling the buzz of the film is the compelling genre, storyline and actor’s smashing comeback after two years. As soon as the spy thriller’s 4-minute, trailer dropped, netizens went gaga over Ranveer’s rugged and powerful look in Aditya Dhar‘s violent actioner. A lot of money has been riding on the film with an approx. budget of Rs 280 crore, which makes the pre-bookings even more important. Industry tracker Sacnilk has estimated Dhurandhar’s advance booking number to be around Rs 4.24 crore, which includes block booking. As far as pre-sales are concerned, around 58,801 tickets have been sold across 4,016 shows in India.

Dhurandhar plot leaked

Dhurandhar faced a legal obstacle recently after parents of Major Mohit Sharma moved HC to seek urgent stay on the film’s release alleging the film “appears to be directly inspired” by the life, persona, undercover operations and martyrdom of their son and made without their consent. The court then directed CBFC to take a fresh look at the film to assess any links with late Major Mohit Sharma. However, upon re-examination, no such link was found and the film received A certification. Following CBFC, go-ahead, the film’s plot has also been revealed, bringing to end many speculations about its storyline. Dhurandhar has a runtime of 3 hours, 34 minutes, making it the longest Indian film in 17 years.

Dhurandhar based on Kandahar Hijack

The film revolves around the Kandahar Hijack of December 1999, and apart from Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt star in key roles.

Here’s what the plot reads:

“Set against the backdrop of the IC-814 hijacking in 1999 and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the film follows India’s Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajay Sanyal, who crafts a daring and indomitable mission to infiltrate and dismantle a powerful terrorist network operating out of Pakistan. To execute this high-risk operation, Sanyal recruits an unlikely asset — a 20-year-old boy from Punjab, held captive for committing a revenge-driven crime. Recognising the boy’s potential and raw intensity, Sanyal decides to mould him into a weapon capable of penetrating Karachi’s ruthless underworld mafia.”

This isn’t the first time Kandahar Hijack has been depicted on screen. A 2024 series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, starring Vijay Varma, Patralekha, Pankaj Kapur, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Dia Mirza is currently streaming on Netflix.
