Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Dhurandhar has taken over social media, but not for the reasons one would expect. While the trailer impressed many viewers with its intense action and gripping tone, it also sparked a major controversy after content creator and political commentator Dhruv Rathee criticized it for showing extreme violence.
Aditya Dhar, known for Uri: The Surgical Strike, returns with another high-intensity spy thriller. The trailer of Dhurandhar promises a dark and emotional story filled with large-scale action. Ranveer Singh appears in one of his most violent and rugged roles so far, looking completely different from his usual energetic screen image. His look reminded many viewers of his fearsome performance in Padmaavat.
Dhruv Rathee calls Dhurandhar trailer ‘excessively violent’
Soon after the trailer’s release, Dhruv Rathee reacted strongly on X (formerly Twitter). He said the trailer was filled with unnecessary violence and crossed a line.
Rathee wrote, “Aditya Dhar has truly crossed a limit of cheapness in Bollywood. The extreme violence, gore and torture shown in his latest film trailer is the equivalent of watching ISIS beheadings and calling it ‘entertainment’.”
His statement quickly went viral, with thousands of users joining the debate. Some agreed with him, while others said viewers should wait for the full movie before passing judgment.
Rathee accuses makers of glorifying brutality
Rathee went on to accuse the team behind Dhurandhar of using violence as a way to attract attention and earn more money. His post further read, “His lust for money is so unhinged that he is willingly poisoning the minds of the young generation, desensitizing them to gore and glorifying unimaginable torture.”
He also urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to review the trailer. “This is the chance for the Censor Board to show whether they have a bigger problem with people kissing or with someone being skinned alive,” he added. This comment started an online discussion about censorship rules in India.
Ranveer Singh’s most intense role yet
Even with the controversy, fans are excited to see Ranveer Singh’s transformation. The trailer shows strong dialogues, tight editing, and powerful action sequences. It appears to be a patriotic thriller with emotional depth, dealing with themes of sacrifice, duty, and national security. Many believe this could become one of Ranveer’s most impactful performances.
Dhurandhar may release in two parts
Adding more buzz, a Bollywood Hungama report claimed that Dhurandhar might be released in two parts. According to the media reports, the first part is expected to arrive on December 5 and may end on a big cliffhanger. The second part will continue the story, but the makers have not officially confirmed it yet.
For now, Dhurandhar remains one of the most talked-about films of the year and not just for its scale and action, but also for the heated debate around its violent scenes. As the release date gets closer, all eyes are on how audiences and the censor board will respond to this intense thriller on December 5.
