June 14 marked the official release of the eagerly awaited Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion. The Kabir Khan movie did well at the box office on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, the film made Rs 4.75 crore on Day 1 at the domestic box office.
The film, Chandu Champion is inspired by the life of Padma Shri recipient and India’s first-ever gold medallist at the Paralympics, Murlikant Petkar as it centres on Murlikant Petkar’s unwavering perseverance. The movie released on Friday, June 14, is backed by Kabir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala and Pen Studios. In addition to Kartik Aaryan, the movie also stars Sonali Kulkarni, Rajpal Yadav, Bhagyashree, Vijay Raaz, and Shreyas Talpade.
Prior to the film’s release, the Chandu Champion filmmakers had a large-scale screening in Mumbai on Thursday. The guest list featured Vidya Balan, Ananya Panday and Alaya F, the co-stars of Kartik Aaryan’s Pati Patni Aur Woh, Freddy, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Additionally, Murlikant Petkar also went to the screening of Chandu Champion with his family.
Actor Kartik Aaryan shared a clip from his film’s screening through his social media account on Instagram. He wrote, “First screening of Chandu Champion with the Man himself. An evening filled with honour, joy and tears with The Real Champion The Man who refused to surrender Mr Murlikant Petkar.” In fact, in one of the videos Kartik Aaryan is shown sitting with the renowned sportsman and his family. Arjun Petkar, the son of Murlikant Petkar, wept uncontrollably and hugged Kartik and director Kabir Khan after the movie.
Before this, Kabir Khan, in a conversation with news agency IANS, revealed the reason behind choosing Kartik Aaryan for this role. He said, “When I was writing the script of ‘Chandu’ obviously, when you are writing the script, you have an image in your mind. And that image, that character, has an age, personality, attitude. So, when you have these pointers, the next step is to identify which actor can embody all these characteristics. Very strongly, I felt those characteristics in Kartik Aaryan.”
