Jimmy Kimmel suspended: American TV host Jimmy Kimmel joins the list of suspensions as the entertainment industry faces a huge crisis. Following Stephen Colbert and Matthew Dowd, Kimmel’s late-night show was suspended “indefinitely” after he remarked on Trump ally Charlie Kirk’s death. Calling his alleged murderer, Tyler Robinson, a part of the MAGA, Kimmel received a lot of backlash from the Internet.

However, the industry did not back down from supporting Kimmel and his latest tryst with Trump. Garnering a comment from the legend behind ‘The Daily Show’, Jon Stewart was among the many who called out the suspension. Kimmel’s contemporaries, including David Letterman, Stephen Colbert, and other Hollywood actors, have also spoken up, condemning ABC’s recent unilateral decision.

‘Why would anyone watch you?’

Taking over the news desk for Thursday’s ‘Daily Show’, Jon Stewart reiterated his previous comments about Colbert’s cancellation in July. “The shows that you now seek to cancel, censor, and control … a not-insignificant portion of that $8 billion value came from those shows,” he had remarked.

Commenting on Kimmel, Jon Stewart called out ABC and gave a rather blunt response. ” If you believe — as corporations or as networks — that you can make yourselves so innocuous that you can serve a gruel so flavorless that you will never again be on the boy king’s radar … Why would anyone watch you?”

‘Authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office’

The grandfather of late-night television, David Letterman, also reacted to the Jimmy Kimmel suspension. Commenting on ABC’s pause upon the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) chairman, Letterman spoke out at The Atlantic Festival. “It’s ridiculous. You can’t go around firing somebody because you’re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office, that’s just not how this works,” he remarked.

‘I hope he comes back’

In a satirical monologue on his show, ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon‘, the talk show host did not hold back from supporting Kimmel. “Jimmy reacts to ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel after pressure from the FCC, leaving everyone thinking WTF?” He added, “I know Jimmy Kimmel…I hope he comes back.” Praised with a series of applause from his audience, Fallon took a humorous tone and reported on Trump’s visit to the UK. Here’s what he said:

On the other hand, a vocal defender of free speech, Joe Rogan, has been rather silent about Kimmel’s suspension, which is an unusual time in censorship.

Hollywood responds to Jimmy Kimmel

Monster-in-Law’s Wanda Yvette Skyes took to social media and revealed that she was set to appear on Kimmel’s show, just ahead of the suspension. She added, “Let’s see, he didn’t end the Ukraine War or solve Gaza within his first week. But he did end freedom of speech within his first year. Hey, for those of you who pray, now’s the time to do it. Love you, Jimmy.”

Emmy winner Jean Smart also supported Kimmel’s show and noted that it wasn’t “hate speech”, but “free speech”. Coming to his support, actor Pedro Pascal shared an image on Instagram with a caption, “Standing with you, Jimmy Kimmel Live. Defend Free Speech. Defend Democracy.” Jimmy Kimmel also saw support from Kerry Washington, Octavia Spencer, Ben Stiller, and Mike Birbiglia.

Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension comes after Matthew Dowd’s layoff from MSNBC after he spoke up about Kirk’s death. As the entertainment industry united for free speech, MAGA on X (formerly Twitter) even claimed that Kimmel was “unfunny” and noted the drop in ratings as a major reason behind his suspension.
