Security around host Salman Khan has been tightened on the sets of Bigg Boss 19 after continuous threats to his life. The show’s producers have introduced several precautionary measures, including eliminating live audiences during episodes hosted by the actor. We look at the several security measures that have been introduced on the sets.

Rishi Negi, CEO of Endemol Shine India, the company behind the hit reality show, spoke about the heightened security protocols and operational changes implemented to ensure the safety of Khan, crew members, and contestants. “We have close to 600 people in our workforce. There are 3 shifts, and we work 24X7. There is fair representation of women in the workforce. When it comes to content security and on-ground logistics, we are absolutely uncompromising — both are top priorities,” Negi told SCREEN.

What are the new security measures?

Negi revealed that the production team has completely restructured its security systems in response to the repeated threats.

“In the last two and a half years, we have beefed up security because of threats to Salman Khan. We don’t get live audiences on the show now when Salman Khan is there. Also, there is a very strict protocol about the people who come on the show. For everyone we hire, whether on a permanent basis, temporary, or vendor basis, we do a strict background check on them,” Negi explained.

Security checks have been strengthened at all entry and exit points of the Bigg Boss sets, and the movement of outsiders is now heavily restricted. The producers have also increased coordination with local law enforcement agencies to ensure maximum protection for Salman Khan and the production team.

Death threats against Salman Khan

The enhanced security measures come after a series of incidents targeting the actor. In April 2024, multiple gunshots were fired outside Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai’s Bandra area. Investigations later pointed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with the gangster’s brother Anmol Bishnoi reportedly claiming responsibility for the attack via a Facebook post.

Following the shooting, Khan’s security was escalated to Y+ category by Mumbai Police. The actor also took personal steps to increase his safety, buying a bulletproof Nissan Patrol SUV worth around Rs 2 crore, imported directly from Dubai in October 2024. Additionally, he also installed bulletproof glass on the balcony of his Mumbai house.
