Superstar Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Baby’ box office collections had an average opening, generating Rs 9.3 crore. According to early reports, the ‘Baby’ movie did well in major cities and this was reflected in its multiplex business takes.
‘Baby’ did well on the weekends too with Rs 11.17 on Saturday and Rs 15.60 crore on Sunday, capping the opening weekend box office collections at Rs 36.07 crore. What is more, what with the extended weekend running into Monday, the movie’s box office collections are certain to rise.
But ‘Baby’ box office collections failed to reach Rs 100 crore mark in Week 1 crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in spite of having an extended four-day weekend after its release. As expected, the movie has done good business but could have done better with the kind of all around reviews it received.

With Rs 63.82 crore from the opening week, ‘Baby’ looks to cross the lifetime box office collections of 2014 release ‘Entertainment’, which made Rs 72.02 crore. But it remains to be seen whether the movie can become the first film to enter the Rs 100 core club in 2015 and mint more money than Akshay’s last year release ‘Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’ (Rs 112.45 crore).
Here’s what trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on ‘Baby’ box office collections on first week:
#Baby Fri to Mon [4-day weekend] 50.97 cr, Tue 5.10 cr, Wed 4.25 cr, Thu 3.50 cr. Total: ₹ 63.82 cr. India biz. — taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) January 30, 2015
‘Baby’ movie is Akshay Kumar’s ninth biggest opening day grosser in a list topped by his 2012 release ‘Rowdy Rathore’ (Rs 15.10 crore), ‘Boss’ (Rs 14.5 crore) and Housefull 2 (Rs 14 crore). in 2014, his two movies – ‘Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’ and ‘Entertainment’ – also opened well at Rs 12.18 crore and Rs 11.57 crore respectively.
