James Cameron’s highly-anticipated third Avatar installment Fire and Ash is currently making its rounds in theatres and audiences have been raving about it globally. From a thrilling new storyline to stunning visuals and cinematography – the film has it all and is on its way to becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest hits as 2025 closes out.

In India, there was massive hype about the movie as well with many projecting the film to give stiff competition to and even surpass the collection of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar. It seems however, that the latest Avatar feature has failed to beat Dhurandhar’s hype – though, it must be noted that the momentum of the film is still in it’s early stages having just been released on December 19, 2025 .

Box Office performance of Avatar: Fire and Ash

On Day 4 of its release Avatar: Fire and Ash earned Rs 8.55 crore at the Indian Box Office, marking a significant weekday drop after a strong opening weekend. The film’s collections diminished by almost 66.80% according to rough estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. Though this drop is not unusual, considering that the weekend is over and weekdays invite fewer footfalls, Dhurandhar’s numbers remained constant even on Monday.

With an earning of Rs 8.55 crore, Avatar: Fire and Ash has crossed the Rs 70 crore milestone – earning an India Net collection of Rs 75.8 crore – and is eyeing the Rs 100 crore target next. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar earned double of what Fire and Ash did on the same day and added Rs 16 crore to their India Net collection which is now worth Rs 571.75 crore as per Sacnilk.

Theatre occupancy on Day 4 for Avatar: Fire and Ash

On its first Monday, the film saw a varied response across different languages and formats. For the Hindi 3D version, the overall occupancy stood at 19.43%, with a notable rise during the evening and night shows, which recorded 23.83% and 25.26% respectively. In the English 3D segment, the film maintained a steady hold with 18.92% occupancy.

Regional markets showed specific pockets of strength; for instance, Bengaluru and Chennai recorded higher interest for the Hindi 3D screenings, with occupancy peaking at 29% and 65% respectively, highlighting the film’s pull in major metropolitan hubs even on a workday.

Across other languages, the Telugu 3D screenings saw an overall occupancy of 17.37%, while the Tamil 3D version hovered around 19.26%. Despite the drop in ticket sales compared to the blockbuster Sunday performance, the late-night shows across India remained the most popular, suggesting that the film is still a preferred choice for working professionals and adult audiences. As the week progresses, the film’s ability to maintain these double-digit occupancy figures will be important in determining how quickly it can bridge the gap toward the Rs 100 crore club.
