Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ box office collections showed phenomenal jump to Rs 38.24 crore on Sunday after opening below expectations. Combined with Friday and Saturday data, PK collection for the opening weekend stood at Rs 95.21 crore and missed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark.
Only, Aamir Khan’s previous movie ‘Dhoom 3’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ managed to enter the Rs 100 crore club in three days.
‘PK’ now stands as the 2nd biggest opening weekend grosser of the year after ‘Happy New Year’ (Rs 108.86) – which was released on a holiday – but ahead of Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ (Rs 83.83 crore) and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns (Rs 77.69 crore). ‘PK’, which is seeing good footfalls at the multiplexes, scored higher, thanks to higher ticket rates. Incidentally, ‘PK’ also made it to the all-time opening day grosser list with Rs 26.63 crore behind ‘Happy New Year’ (Rs 44.97 crore), ‘Dhoom 3’ (Rs 36.22 crore), ‘Chennai Express’ (Rs 33.12 crore), ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (Rs 32.93 crore), ‘Singham Returns’ (Rs 32.09 crore) and ‘Bang Bang’ (Rs 27.54 crore).

International box office collections for ‘PK’ was also impressive with $2.3 million (Rs 14.59 crore) at the end of Day 1. As of first weekend, PK’s overseas collections stood at Rs 29.9 crore.
PK’s business is set to soar with Christmas holiday around the corner and Aamir Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer looks to break some record by the end of Week 1.
