The 71st edition of the National Film Awards, which was announced on August 1, marks the first time Shah Rukh Khan is going to win the prestigious award. Following the announcement of winners, there was a lot of speculation regarding the date of the presentation ceremony. It is now confirmed that the honours will be conferred in September at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

When is 71st National Film Awards happening?

According to industry sources, the function is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 4:00 pm. A source revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “The 71st National Film Awards will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 4:00 pm. As always, it’ll be held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The winners and jury members were informed about the time, date and venue through an official letter and invitation. As per the protocol, the invitees can avail of flight tickets, accommodation and pick up and drop from Delhi airport; the same has been mentioned in the letter.”

The gala event is expected to witness the presence of the winners this year, including Shah Rukh Khan, Vikrant Massey, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sudipto Sen, Janki Bodiwala, Shilpa Rao, and Vaibhavi Merchant. As per tradition, the awards will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu.

Earlier, a press briefing was organised at the National Media Centre in New Delhi at 6 pm on August 1, where the jury revealed the complete list of honourees. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker led the official announcements.

Big winners of the 71st National Film Awards

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, produced under VVC Films, was named Best Feature Film. Karan Johar’s family entertainer Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was recognised as Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Sudipto Sen won the Best Director title for The Kerala Story.

In acting categories, Shah Rukh Khan bagged Best Actor for Jawan, along with Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail. Rani Mukerji was named Best Actress for her performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.

Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur earned multiple awards in technical segments, including Best Makeup, Best Costume, and Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values. Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also secured a trophy for Best Choreography.

Other notable mentions included Adah Sharma’s The Kerala Story, Sanya Malhotra’s Kathal, Teja Sajja’s Hanu-Man, and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, each winning recognition across diverse categories.
