The Rajasthan cabinet on Tuesday approved a change in the official nomenclature of university heads, renaming chancellors and vice chancellors as ‘Kulguru’ and ‘Prati Kulguru’, respectively. The decision, taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, was later announced by ministers Jogaram Patel and Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary. They provided details on key policy approvals aimed at strengthening Rajasthan’s governance and infrastructure, NDTV reported.

Among the major decisions, the cabinet approved the Rajasthan Data Policy, which will focus on improving digital infrastructure and data management across the state. Additionally, to boost investment in data centers, the government announced an incentive of Rs 100 crore for the first three centers investing over Rs 100 crore, the report further stated. These data centers will also benefit from exemptions on stamp duty, land conversion charges and electricity tariffs, promoting the establishment of Green Data Centres under the state’s Green Revolution initiative, it said.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government on Monday introduced a stringent new bill to curb religious conversions carried out through coercion, allurement or fraud. The Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill proposes a maximum imprisonment of 10 years, with all offences classified as cognisable and non-bailable.

The bill also imposes an exhaustive process for those seeking voluntary conversion. Applicants must navigate bureaucratic hurdles, including a requirement for the district administration to publicly display their details on a notice board to invite objections—an unusual move that could spark controversy.
