The skill-based gaming industry has recently embraced the launch of the ‘Skill Online Games Institute’ (SOGI), an initiative aimed at becoming the trusted hub for reliable data concerning skill-based online games. SOGI’s core objective is to grant stakeholders access to the most current industry advancements and emerging worldwide trends, according to an official release.

SOGI’s initiative, termed CRP, revolves around Cataloguing information, Research in collaboration with academic institutions and Presentations to diverse stakeholders, including relevant ministries, academia, regulators and other key players. Its comprehensive scope covers a wide range of topics related to the skilled online gaming sector, such as data analysis, academic research, legal precedents, expert opinions, tax implications and regulatory frameworks across various regions, the release mentioned.

Moreover, SOGI aims to explore multiple facets of the gaming industry, including its economic influence, the impact of existing games on users’ well-being, the balance between skill and chance, policies combating illegal gambling and other crucial aspects. The institute’s goal is to empower stakeholders to make well-informed decisions based on unbiased, factual information, free from emotional or moral biases, as per the release. 

“SOGI aims to serve as a comprehensive knowledge hub for stakeholders, supporting them in realizing their full potential. Our mission is to help in harnessing the full potential of the skilled online games industry for the benefit of the country while minimising its negative facets through the use of knowledge,” Amrit Kiran Singh, president, SOGI, said.

To fill gaps in areas where data is currently lacking, SOGI has established collaborative partnerships with institutions such as IIM Bangalore, IIT Roorkee and The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS). Additionally, SOGI claims to actively pursue similar partnerships with renowned international institutions, ensuring meticulous research and comprehensive insights for the benefit of the gaming industry, it added.
