Activists from the CPI(M)’s student wing, SFI, staged demonstrations outside two universities in the city on Thursday as part of a day-long students’ strike protesting alleged irregularities in NEET and UGC NET exams.

At Jadavpur University, they burned tires at one gate and held a sit-in at the main gate of Presidency University, demanding the arrest of those behind the alleged exam irregularities.

Carrying placards, the protesting students demanded action against the National Testing Agency, which conducted NEET, and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The strike, organised by SFI, disrupted classes at several universities where the Left students’ union is active.

Abhinaba Basu, a member of SFI at Jadavpur University, stated that the protesters received widespread student support and ensured no disruptions for those entering campus. “Our peaceful protests will continue until afternoon,” he affirmed.

Throughout the day, the state unit of the students’ body has planned a series of protest rallies in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal on this issue.
