The seventh edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC), hosted at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He engaged with more than 4,000 students from various regions of India. During the event, PM Modi interacted with students, teachers and parents. Notably, 205.62 million students, 14.93 million teachers and 5.69 million parents were enrolled for PPC 2024, according to the Ministry of Education. Here are the top six pointers of the event highlighted by PM Modi.
Self-competence over comparison in examination settings
PM Modi highlighted that the students should focus on competing with themselves rather than being concerned about others. Referring to students as the architects of India’s future, PM Modi remarked that the Pariksha Pe Charcha programme is akin to an examination for him as well.
He suggests students to do regular writing practice and encourages students to approach exam questions with a calm demeanour, emphasising the need to avoid panic. He emphasised the importance of practice in building confidence, stating, “The more you practise, the more confident you become. Regardless of the difficulty of the question paper, thorough practice ensures excellent performance.”
Embrace sports alongside studies
PM Modi emphasised the importance of balancing academics with physical activity, urging students to prioritise their mental well-being by incorporating sports into their routine. He advised studying in well-lit areas with natural sunlight and encouraged clarity in stream selection to avoid confusion.
Importance of teacher-student relationship in alleviating study pressure
Addressing a question on student motivation and pressure, PM Modi underscored the crucial role teachers play in fostering a supportive environment. He emphasised the need for teachers to cultivate healthy relationships with students, which can alleviate exam stress and encourage motivation. Furthermore, he stressed that a teacher’s role goes beyond mere instruction, aiming to enrich and evolve students’ lives.
Students to avoid overburdening themselves
PM Modi advised students against shouldering excessive burdens, as it can hinder their abilities. He suggested starting gradually and taking things one step at a time to ensure steady progress. Additionally, he highlighted the role of parents in potentially adding to children’s pressure by comparing them with others, emphasising the importance of creating a supportive environment free from unnecessary comparisons.
Trust and equality in education
PM Modi underscored the importance of fostering trust between students and parents. He urged teachers to treat all students equally and to acknowledge and appreciate their individual skills throughout the teaching and learning journey.
PM’s advice on balanced lifestyle
PM Modi cautioned against overuse of mobile phones, especially at the cost of adequate sleep, emphasising the significance of nutrition and consistent exercise for holistic well-being.
Conducted by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Pariksha Pe Charcha has been actively engaging students, parents and teachers for the past six years. In response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the fourth edition transitioned to an online format, while the fifth and sixth editions returned to the traditional town hall setting. Last year’s event saw participation from a total of 31.24 lakh students, 5.60 lakh teachers and 1.95 lakh parents. This year, an estimated 2.26 crore registrations have been recorded on the MyGov portal, according to the Ministry of Education.
