Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan persistently criticised State Higher Education Minister R Bindhu for her recent role as chairperson during a senate meeting at Kerala University on Sunday. He asserted that her participation was deemed “illegal” and constituted a “violation of law.”

Expressing visible displeasure, Governor Khan emphasised that a university’s senate meeting could only be chaired by the Chancellor or an individual authorised by the Chancellor.

He stated unequivocally that no other person had the right to preside over the meeting, responding to reporters’ inquiries about Bindhu’s leadership during the senate meeting held in her capacity as Pro-chancellor in the capital city on Friday.

“So, what I know is that, somebody claiming to be the education minister tried to illegally enter the Senate hall…This is.,,violation of law,” he said.

When the media pointed out the statements of the minister in this regard, Khan said “I am not going to respond to criminals.” Minister Bindhu told reporters in Kozhikode that she had no time to waste over controversies.

“If it was not legal, the court can be approached,” she said in reply to the Governor’s criticism over her participation in the meeting.

Additionally, she aimed to emphasize to Khan that Kerala operates as a state in adherence to democratic principles, legal procedures, and in accordance with the Constitution.

Governor Khan had strongly condemned the minister on the previous day as well, asserting that she appears to be “completely ignorant” and lacks respect for both the court and the laws of the land.
