The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur has announced a significant change in its admission process, marking a move towards independently managing admissions for its flagship MBA programme starting from the 2025–26 academic year. This strategic decision, revealed by an official, represents a step forward in aligning with the practices of older, established IIMs.

In addition to the flagship MBA programme, the independent admission process will also extend to the institute’s newly introduced MBA in Business Analytics course, reflecting its commitment to maintaining uniformity and rigor across all offerings.

“This new admission framework underscores IIM Sambalpur’s dedication to creating a more comprehensive and personalized admissions experience by directly engaging with candidates,” the institute noted in a press release. The revamped process introduces flexibility for applicants, allowing them to opt for personal interviews in either physical or virtual formats, thereby accommodating diverse preferences and circumstances.

Admissions will continue to uphold a merit-based approach, incorporating multiple criteria such as CAT 2024 scores, academic performance, work experience, and efforts to promote gender balance. By doing so, the institute aims to select candidates who exemplify excellence and diversity.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, stated, “With this transition to an independent admission process, we are not only aligning ourselves with the practices of the older generation IIMs but also setting a benchmark for fostering talent and innovation. Our objective is to offer a seamless and tailored experience for applicants, ensuring that the selection process reflects our vision of nurturing future leaders equipped to meet global challenges.”

This initiative reinforces IIM Sambalpur’s position as a progressive institution dedicated to academic excellence and innovation while enhancing the overall applicant experience.
