The National Education Policy 2020 has outlined a vision to develop curricula for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, placing a strong focus on encouraging interdisciplinary studies. This strategy aims to empower young talent to blend diverse ideas and concepts comprehensively, fostering intellectual growth through analytical and critical thinking. Simultaneously, engaging in interdisciplinary studies empowers students to explore and exchange expertise across diverse fields, thereby broadening their scope and depth of knowledge, Padmakali Banerjee, vice chancellor, designate, IILM University Gurugram, told FE Education. “This expansion of substantive knowledge base ultimately improves students’ employability and self-reliance. The concept is to immerse students in diverse fields of study while upholding the coherence and completeness of accumulated knowledge,” she said.
IILM University claims to offer various interdisciplinary study programmes or opportunities to facilitate comprehensive education in a meaningful manner. The university asserts that its curriculum offers flexibility, enabling students to cultivate expertise across a range of courses tailored to their varied interests and talents. For instance, a student majoring in B.Tech in Computer Science from the School of Engineering and Technology can simultaneously pursue a minor in Psychology from the School of Liberal Arts, allowing for an interdisciplinary experience. “The primary aim is to design a curriculum that aims to empower students to tailor their academic journey according to their diverse interests. The emphasis lies in accommodating not only the principles of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) but also Outcome Based Education (OBE), all while nurturing the holistic development of students from a multidimensional standpoint,” Banerjee explained. Additionally, the university provides a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The undergraduate programmes fees range from Rs 10.8 lakh to Rs 17 lakh, while postgraduate programmes fees range from Rs two lakh to Rs 11.7 lakh.
Moreover, the institution claims to offer mentorship and academic guidance to its students. It claims to boast student counselling services staffed by experienced counsellors who assist students in addressing mental distress and anxiety related to their academic pursuits. The corporate resource centre and placement cell are dedicated to cultivating highly sought-after behavioural traits and etiquette, in addition to offering valuable internship and placement opportunities aligned with students’ interests. “Each student is paired with a seasoned faculty member possessing experience in academia and industry. This mentorship aims to ensure students undergo holistic development tailored to their interests. Exclusive time slots are allocated for mentorship and academic guidance, enabling students to navigate the academic landscape, including exploring dual career paths,” she said.
