Delhi University (DU) Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh announced on Saturday that the start of the first semester for undergraduate courses will be postponed by two weeks due to a delay in the release of the Central University Entrance Test UG (CUET UG) results.

“The academic session for the first semester for the courses where admission is through CUET UG will likely get pushed to August 16,” Singh said, ANI reported. He also mentioned that the academic calendar of other semesters will not be affected and they will start on August 1 as scheduled.

The CUET-UG 2024, a single-window test for admissions to most undergraduate programs at 46 central universities, including DU, was conducted in hybrid mode in May by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The results, initially set for release on June 30, were delayed due to alleged discrepancies related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), also conducted by the NTA.

Singh mentioned that there has been no communication from the NTA regarding the result declaration date.

The Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal for DU’s undergraduate program admissions opened on May 28, allowing students to register in the first phase. However, the second phase of admissions will only begin after the CUET UG results are announced.

The first semester is tentatively scheduled to start on August 16. If the CUET results are released sooner and the process is completed earlier, the semester may start earlier as well, according to DU registrar Vikas Gupta.

UGC chief M Jagadesh Kumar assured that the NTA is working to announce the results as soon as possible. After the last date for the draft key challenge, experts review the challenges and prepare the final key, which usually takes about a week or two. However, NTA is expediting the process to announce the results quickly.
