Amid widespread speculation on social media about large-scale cancellations of the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2025, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on Monday clarified that the recruitment test is proceeding as scheduled across the country. Only a small number of exam shifts have been affected, according to the officials.

The CGLE 2025 examinations started on September 12 and will run until September 26, with three shifts held each day. The exam is being conducted at 227 centres across 129 cities in India. Over 28 lakh candidates are expected to take part, making it one of the biggest exams in the country.

“So far, 3,01,722 candidates have taken their examinations smoothly. Out of a total of 2,435 shifts planned across all the centres, only 25 shifts in some centres have been cancelled to date. All 7,705 affected candidates have already been rescheduled for alternate dates,” SSC officials said.

Additionally, the Commission noted that the examination process is proceeding without disruption. “In the exam scheduled on September 15, no centres have been cancelled and the examination is going on smoothly at all centres across the country,” the officials added.

Reasons behind earlier cancellations

The cancellations that occurred on September 12 and in some subsequent days were due to technical and administrative issues. Server failures and other technical glitches disrupted a few exam shifts, particularly in some centres. Some of the affected locations included Delhi, Gurugram, Jammu, Ranchi, Dehradun, Mumbai, Prayagraj and West Bengal.

Previously, SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan has assured that candidates who missed the CGLE 2025 exam due to technical or other issues will be given fresh dates without losing their attempts.

Re-exam schedules announced

New exam centres and re-exam schedules have been announced for affected candidates. “Only a small number of shifts have been affected, and all impacted candidates have already been given alternate dates,” the official statement reads.

Over 28 lakh candidates are expected to register for the exam and while some centres faced problems, most locations have continued as planned. Additionally, SSC has launched a feedback portal to allow candidates to share their experiences during the exam.
