The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Monday announced a new question paper pattern for both matriculation (Class 10) and intermediate (Class 12) examinations which are slated to take place in 2018. According to a report by Indian Express, the state education board has also mentioned that the new pattern will include 50 per cent objective questions in all papers. Under the new format, candidates will now have to answer all objective questions on OMR sheets to ensure transparency. Earlier, only papers of science had 40 per cent objective questions. The move is possibly taken keeping in mind the poor results of both Class 10 and 12 during 2017 session. While the pass percentage in Class 10 was 50.12 per cent this year, it was a dismal 35.25 — the worst in two decades — in Class 12.

Speaking to reporters about the same, BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said, “We have decided to change the examination pattern for Classes 10 and 12 from 2018. All theory papers will have 50 per cent objective marks. There will also be short questions of two marks each.”

“We are changing the examination pattern with two targets – to improve pass percentage and ensure meritorious students getting high percentage can compete with students of other boards,” Kishor added further.

CBSE had released the timetable for class 10 and class 12 on October 24. The class 12 exam will start from February 6 to February 16, 2018, while class 10 exams will take place on February 21 and will continue till February 28. This year, the Class X topper bagged 93 per cent while the Class XII science topper got 86.2 per cent, arts topper 82.2 per cent and commerce topper 81.6 per cent.

The state board also mentioned that these marks are not good enough to ensure admission in any good college in Delhi.
