Zepto, the popular quick-commerce platform has lost its food business license in Dharavi, Mumbai. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took strict action against the business after an inspection conducted at their Dharavi facility.
Kiranakart Technologies (Zepto) was found violating and in non-compliance of the Food Safety and Standards Act (2006) Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, according to FDA.
FDA inspection revealed
Fungal growth was observed in food articles and products were reported stored near clogged water. The poor hygienic conditions were a threat to food safety and proven hazardous for customers. The PDA inspection revealed that cold-storage temperatures were not maintained as per regulatory guidelines.
Wet and dirty floors with food items and raw materials were kept in a haphazard manner. Unsanitary conditions were noted and expired food products were not separated from the non-expired stock.
Based on information received from Minister of State for FDA Yogen Kadam, the FDA inspection was carried out at Zepto’s Dharavi location. Anupamaa Balasaheb Patil, Assistant Commissioner (Food), ordered an immediate suspension under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Regulation 2.1.8(4) of the Licensing and Registration Regulations, 2011.
There has been no official remark from Zepto. The license remains null until the conditions rise back to complacency.
