Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta’s student was arrested following a woman’s allegation that he raped her on the institute’s campus. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, with the woman filing a formal complaint at Haridevpur Police Station in the evening.

“Late last evening, a woman reported at Haridevpur Police Station that she was raped by a student inside the IIM Calcutta campus. Based on her complaint, a case has been registered, and the accused has been arrested,” Kolkata Police confirmed in a statement issued Saturday.

The police have launched an investigation into the matter. Further details are awaited as authorities continue their inquiry.

The case comes amid heightened public concern over campus safety in Kolkata, following a separate incident just two weeks ago at South Calcutta Law College. A law student was allegedly gangraped on June 25 within the college premises in the Kasba area. In that case, Kolkata Police arrested the three prime accused and a fourth was later detained. All four are currently in 14-day judicial custody as per the order of the Alipore Court on July 9.
