Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed confidence on Saturday that the Congress party will form the government with a comfortable majority following the conclusion of polling. His remarks came as several exit polls predicted a victory for Congress in the Haryana elections.

“We are forming the government with a comfortable majority,” the 77-year-old Hooda told reporters at his residence in Rohtak. He reiterated, “According to our assessment, the people have decided to form the Congress government.”

Regarding the selection of a chief minister if Congress wins, Hooda said that there is a procedure in place, noting that the opinions of party MLAs will be sought and the party “high command” will make the final decision.

When asked about other aspirants for the chief minister position, including Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala, Hooda acknowledged their ambitions but stressed that the party has a defined process for such decisions.

The Congress veteran and two-time former chief minister is seeking re-election from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi in Rohtak district.

Polling for all 90 assembly seats took place on Saturday. Results will be announced on October 8.
