The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lashed out at Telangana CM Revanth Reddy over his remarks on Hindu Gods at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad. The party alleged that the remarks were not casual or accidental but a “deliberate and targeted insult” aimed at “deriding Hindu traditions and humiliating devotees”. BJP also called it the Congress party’s “inherent Hinduphobic DNA”.

‘Deliberate, targeted insult’

“CM Revanth Reddy has once again crossed every line of decency by spewing venom against Hindu deities and exposing the Congress party’s inherent Hinduphobic DNA,” BJP Telangana wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The party further claimed that Reddy had “shamelessly mocked Hindu faith”, insisting that the comments were intentional. “This is not a joke. This is not a slip of the tongue. This is a deliberate, targeted insult aimed at deriding Hindu traditions and humiliating devotees.”

“This is the true face of Congress: Mock Hindus, malign their beliefs, and manufacture division for political gain,” the post from BJP Telangana’s social media handle further read.

What did Revanth Reddy say?

According to the BJP, while addressing an event, Revanth Reddy questioned the number of deities in Hinduism, asking: “How many Gods are there for Hindus? Three crore?”

He reportedly went on to refer to deities associated with different practices and communities, saying each group had its own god.

He added, “Why do so many exist? There is one god for those who are unmarried – Hanuman. There is another god for those who marry twice. And there is yet another god for those who drink alcohol. For hen sacrifice, there is one; for dal and rice, there is one. Each group has its own god.”

‘BJP has never insulted any religion’

Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, has also “strongly condemned” the CM’s remarks in a post on social media. He added that the “hatred Congress holds towards Hindus and Hindu Gods now stands exposed”.

“Strongly condemn the comments made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy insulting Hindus and Hindu deities. The Congress has always been a party that bends before the AIMIM. Revanth Reddy himself said Congress is a Muslim party – that statement alone exposes their mindset. Congress carries deep-rooted hatred towards Hindus,” he wrote on social media.

Kumar added, “This is exactly why we warned during the Jubilee Hills by-election that if Congress or BRS accidentally won, Hindus would not be able to step out with dignity. The CM’s latest comments prove BJP was right.”

He went on to say that the BJP has never “insulted any religion” and urged Hindus to see the “reality of Congress clearly”.

BJP calls for statewide protest today

BJP State President N Ramchander Rao has called for a statewide protest on December 3 in response to the chief minister’s “anti-Hindu stance,” as described by the party.

“By using derogatory language against Hindu deities and gods, and making inappropriate remarks against Hindu society, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has exposed his Hindu hatred,” the BJP Telangana posted.

It added, “As a protest against this hate-filled stance, tomorrow on December 3rd.. BJP will conduct statewide protest programs across Telangana state, and we appeal to the BJP ranks and Hindu society to participate in large numbers in these protests, and teach a proper lesson to Revanth Reddy and the Congress government.”
