Nayab Singh Saini: Hours after Manohar Lal Khattar resigned as the Chief Minister of Haryana amid fresh political crisis, the BJP legislature party has reportedly elected Nayab Saini as the new CM. Saini is set to take the oath as CM at 5 pm later in the day. Apart from Saini, Sanjay Bhatia’s name was also doing the rounds. So, who is Nayab Saini? Here are top five facts about Haryana’s new CM:

  1. Nayab Saini is the sitting MP from Haryana’s Kurukshetra. Saini was appointed as Haryana BJP Chief in 2023. A known OBC face in the state, Saini began his political journey almost three decades ago in 1996. Strengthening the structural ecosystem of BJP, he remained a committed grassroot leader till 2000.
  2. Advancing through the ranks, Saini took on the position of district general secretary of the BJP Youth Wing in Ambala in 2002, before being appointed as the district president in Ambala in 2005.
  3. In his association with the BJP in last three decades, Saini has held several key posts such as state general secretary of the BJP Kisan Morcha (Haryana) in 2009 and subsequently getting appointed as Ambala BJP’s district president in the year 2012.
  4. In 2014, Naini won the Assembly Elections and was elected MLA from Haryana’s Narayangarh Assembly Constituency. two years later, Saini was appointed as minister in the state government.
  5. In the last General Elections, Saini registered a thumping win in Kurukshetra after defeating his nearest rival – INC’s Nirmal Singh – with a massive margin of over 3.83 lakh votes. Born on January 25, 1970, in Ambala’s Mizapur Majra village, Saini studied at Muzaffarpur’s BR Ambedkar Bihar University and got BA and LLB degrees. Later, Saini joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Here, he met Manohar Lal Khattar.
