Mohan Singh Bisht, a seasoned leader of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has come up as the winner in Delhi’s Mustafabad constituency in the 2025 Legislative Assembly elections. His win is remarkable as Mustafabad, often considered as a stronghold of opposition parties, saw a major political shift in favour of the BJP.

Bisht has been an influential leader in Delhi politics for decades and has earlier represented the Karawal Nagar constituency.  He first won a seat in the Delhi Assembly in 1988 and continued to be an MLA until 2015. After winning Karawal Nagar in 2020, the BJP strategically placed him in Mustafabad for the 2025 elections, where he secured a decisive win.

Commenting on his deep link with the area, Bisht told The Indian Express earlier, ‘’I have worked as MLA of Karawal Nagar from 1998 to 2008, during which the Mustafabad constituency was created. People have shown strong support for me since my name was announced as a candidature. The party has also provided massive support, and I was confident that Mustafabad would be among the first seats BJP would win.’’

Bisht garnered 85,215 votes, beating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan by a notable margin of 17,578 votes. As this was the constituency who had faced tension during the Delhi riots in 2020, his campaign gave preference to the community concerns, maintaining harmony and development.

Bisht born in Uttarakhand in 1957 has longstanding ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and also played a major role in shaping his political career. His victory in Mustafabad marks a significant turning point for BJP.
