This victory marks Italia’s debut as a legislator.

Journey from police officer to politician

Born on July 21, 1989, in Botad, Gujarat, Gopal Italia began his career as a police officer before emerging as a vocal social activist. Italia first garnered public attention in 2017 when, as a government employee, he called up then Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel to complain about alcohol prohibition violations. The video of the phone call went viral, earning him widespread recognition for his bold anti-corruption stance.

Advocate for Patidar rights

Before entering politics, Italia was active in the Patidar reservation agitation and was associated with the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS). In 2018, he organised Kayda Katha public meetings to raise legal awareness. After joining AAP in June 2020, Italia was appointed state vice president and, by December of the same year, became Gujarat unit president.

Italia has led several public protests over social and administrative irregularities. In 2021, he spearheaded protests demanding accountability in the cancellation of the Gujarat head clerk examination due to a paper leak. Known for his grassroots appeal and candid public remarks, he continues to be a prominent voice for youth and farmers.
