Amit Khare, a former bureaucrat, has been appointed as the Secretary to the newly elected Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan. The appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is for a three-year term. According to the official order from the Department of Personnel and Training, Khare’s appointment is on a contract basis, with the rank and pay of a Secretary.
The official order reads, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Amit Khare, IAS (Retd.), 1985 batch, Jharkhand Cadre, as Secretary to the Vice-President of India.”
Who is Amit Khare?
Amit Khare is a retired 1985-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, has most recently been serving as an Advisor to the Prime Minister since October 2021. In this role, he was responsible for social sector matters within the Prime Minister’s Office and was a key member of the team that developed and implemented the landmark National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Khare has held several important positions in his entire carrer. He previously served as Secretary for Information & Broadcasting, Secretary for School Education and Literacy, and Secretary for Higher Education at the central government level. Beyond his work in the education and information sectors, Khare is also known for his role in bringing the ‘fodder scam’ of Bihar to light.

Khare is a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, he also holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from IIM Ahmedabad. He didi his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hinoo in 1977.
New Vice President – C. P. Radhakrishnan
Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was sworn in as India’s 15th Vice President on Friday at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office during a ceremony attended by senior government officials. Radhakrishnan was the NDA’s nominee, won the September 9 election with 452 votes, defeating Opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. He was serving as the Governor of Maharashtra before his nomination.
