Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Friday launched a sharp attack on the central government over reports that Pakistan has been granted clearance to participate in the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Bihar’s Rajgir.
Addressing reporters, Thackeray said the Union Ministry of Sports had issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) allowing Pakistan’s national team to play in the tournament, which is slated for August 29 to September 7. “When we are fighting a country’s terror ideology, the Centre wants our players to play hockey against Pakistan here and cricket in the UAE. If no one objects now, BCCI will soon grant permission for Pakistan to participate in the Cricket Asia Cup,” he said.
Thackeray also questioned the BJP-led Centre’s handling of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. “Where are the perpetrators? The NIA had their sketches. They haven’t been caught yet,” he said, accusing the government of prioritising diplomacy over justice.
He criticised the BJP’s post-Operation Sindoor diplomatic outreach, in which multi-party delegations were sent abroad. “The BJP believes it can resume business as usual with Pakistan, but this won’t be accepted,” Thackeray asserted.
Citing recent developments, Thackeray alleged that India’s foreign policy has failed. “Despite all efforts, Pakistan now chairs the UNSC and continues to receive funds from institutions like the World Bank, IMF and the Asian Development Bank,” he said, questioning the effectiveness of India’s diplomatic strategy and the role of the External Affairs Ministry.
