Bollywood actor and BJP leader Kangana Ranaut on Thursday took a jibe at Indian-origin Zohran Mamdani following his recent win in the New York Democratic mayoral primary.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Kangana Ranaut slammed Zohran Mamdani, suggesting he sounded “more Pakistani than Indian” based on his name. She also reshared an old video of Mamdani, which showed that he had once protested in New York’s Times Square where offensive language was used against Hindus and Lord Rama.

“His mother is Mira Nair, one of our best filmmakers, Padmashri, a beloved and celebrated daughter born and raised in great Bharat based in Newyork, she married Mehmood Mamdani ( Gujarati origin) a celebrated author, and obviously son is named Zohran, he sounds more Pakistani than India,” Kanagana wrote on X.

“Whatever happened to his Hindu identity or bloodline and now he is ready to wipe out Hinduism, wow! It’s the same story every where,” she added. Kangana ended the post by congratulating the parents.

Mamdani’s victory has been followed by a wave of criticism from US President Donald Trump as well. Trump called Mamdani a calling him a “100 per cent communist lunatic”.

Trump too launched a personal attack on the 33-year-old saying, “He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”

Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic race for New York City mayor after former Governor Andrew Cuomo dropped out of the primary. With 90% of the votes counted, Mamdani had secured 43.5% of the total votes.
