An 18-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his four friends after he refused to share the password of an online mobile game (Free Fire) in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. Subsequently, the perpetrators burned the boy’s body and disposed of it in a jungle.
The victim, identified as Papai Das, a Class 10 student, was missing since January 8 and his body was discovered on Monday. The accused in the case have been apprehended by the police.

The five accused, who were apparently the victim’s close friends, used to gather at one of the quarters of the Farakka Barrage to play online games. An altercation within the group, stemming from a dispute over the online game’s password, escalated to Papai’s death.
The victim went out on the evening of January 8 and never returned after which the family lodged a police complaint on January 9.

“Based on preliminary investigations, we discovered that the victim had refused to share his password to play the online mobile game with his friends, which resulted in a fight and ultimately led to his murder,” the police officer added, as PTI reported.
After killing him, the four “friends” attempted to burn Papai using petrol from their bikes, as per the police statement. They then dumped the partially burned body into the Nishindra Ghat of the Farakka feeder and fled to their homes.
The police identified their involvement through the tower location of their mobile phones, they also mentioned that the victim was so addicted to this online game that he skipped his pre-board exam this year.
The victim’s mother could identify him from the tattoos on his body.
