In a horrific incident, A 35-year-old man was held for allegedly killing his wife in a park in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning causing alarm among residents who promptly informed the authorities. The accused Gautam Guchhait is a resident of Chistipur village in Patashpur in Purba Medinipur district. He was later arrested.
Police said that due to Guchhait’s inhumane behaviour, locals were scared to confront him. Superintendent of Police (Purba Medinipur) Soumyadwip Bhattacharya said, “He sat on the bench for almost 30 minutes. Local residents were too afraid to nab him, so they informed the police. We rushed to the spot and arrested him.”
“We will be able to know the motive behind the murder only after a detailed investigation. Prima facie, we suspect a family dispute might be the cause of the murder, the cop added.
According to police, Guchhait could be suffering from mental health issues.
His wife Fulrani’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death.
This is not the first time Gautam Guchhait has made headlines for his unusual behavior. Last year, on March 18, 2021, he sustained injuries after jumping into a lion’s enclosure at the Alipore zoo. Eyewitnesses recounted how Guchhait purchased a ticket and wandered around the zoo before approaching the lion’s enclosure. Despite warnings from onlookers, he climbed over the fence and entered the lion’s territory. The lion attempted to attack him, prompting zoo officials to intervene and rescue him from harm.
