Intense spells of rainfall and snowfall are predicted over the western Himalayan region from tonight and rainfall over the plains of northwest India from March 1 to 3 with peak intensity on the first two days, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weather bulletin mentioned.

A western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Iran & neighborhood to lower to upper tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall is likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on March 1 and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall/snowfall on March 2. 

Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is also very likely over Uttarakhand on March 1st & 2nd. Hailstorm activity is also likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand & Punjab during the first two days of next month. 

Delhi sees cooler morning

People in Delhi woke up to a cooler morning on Wednesday with the minimum temperature settling at 10.7 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, IMD mentioned. 

It was mainly clear sky in the national capital as parts of the city received light rainfall on Tuesday that brought the mercury down.

Notably, the air quality also remained in the ‘moderate’ category at 131. Delhi recorded an AQI of 173 on Tuesday.

Rainfall in parts of the country 

Scattered to fair rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh on March 1 and 2. 

Besides, strong surface winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over northwest India on March 1 and 2. 

A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Bangladesh and neighborhoods in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall activity is likely over Arunachal Pradesh during the next 7 days. 

Other northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will see rainfall activity in the coming days.
