The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in various parts of India for the next few days. According to IMD forecast, several states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Odisha may witness heavy rains. The Met Office has also issued an Orange warning and Yellow alert for heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha.
As per the forecast, rainfall is expected in various parts of East India, including West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bihar, until September 22. Additionally, several cities in Rajasthan have already witnessed rainfall. In northern India, significant precipitation is anticipated across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until September 22.
IMD forecasts heavy rain in Odisha
The meteorological department said a low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal and under its impact widespread rainfall would occur in some districts of Odisha for the next four days. The IMD regional centre forecasted that rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning will also occur in some places of the state during the next two days.
IMD has also issued an Orange warning of heavy rainfall over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri. Moreover, a Yellow warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for the districts of Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Ganjam, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.
Thunderstorms with lightning is also likely across several districts in Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, and Bolangir.
IMD forecasts heavy rain in parts of Tamil Nadu
The southwest monsoon continues to exert its influence over Tamil Nadu, bringing widespread rainfall to both Southern and Northern parts of the state, with Puducherry experiencing lighter rain. According to the weather department, heavy rain is anticipated in isolated locations across the Nilgiris, as well as in the hilly regions of Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, and Madurai districts in Tamil Nadu.
Additionally, the IMD forecasts light to moderate rain at a few places, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at one or two locations across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Wednesday.
Heavy rains lash parts of Gujarat
According to the latest forecast by the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in Saurashtra, Kutch, and the northern Gujarat region on Wednesday.
Over the past day, numerous areas in north Gujarat and the Saurashtra region have experienced heavy rainfall, with the meteorological office predicting further showers across the state. Gujarat has already received nearly its entire annual average rainfall.
Weather forecasts and warnings
East India: Light fairly widespread to widespread downpour with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand and Sikkim during September 20-23; and over Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar during September 21– 23. Odisha will also experience similar weather conditions during September 19-21. Meanwhile, in Odisha, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected on September 20-21 and over Bihar on September 23.
Northeast India: Moderate scattered to fairly widespread showers with isolated heavy rainfall activity is very likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during September 19-23 and over Arunachal Pradesh during September 20-23. Also, isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland, Manipur on September 20-21 and over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya on September 20-22.
Central India: Light fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Chhattisgarh likely during September 20-23.
Central India: Moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall alonge with thunderstorm and lightning with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Chhattisgarh during September 19-22, East Madhya Pradesh during September 21-23; Vidarbha and West Madhya Pradesh on September 22-23.
South India: In South India, Coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to experience light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall expected on September 20.
