The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the latest weather forecast on Sunday (October 1) and informed that several parts of India received rainfall over the past few days. According to IMD, depression weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over south Madhya Maharashtra and neighbourhood.
Heavy showers are predicted over parts of east, northeast and west India. The Met Office further said Bihar is likely to face isolated very heavy rainfall on October 1 and October 3, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 3. Isolated areas in north Chhattisgarh are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall on October 2.
Orange alert issued for parts of Odisha
The meteorological department has reported that due to a well-marked low-pressure area over West Bengal and neighboring Jharkhand, heavy rains are expected to persist in parts of Odisha until October 5.
An ‘Orange’ warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for the following districts: Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Sambalpur on Monday. Additionally, the IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall in Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Kendrapara. Furthermore, thunderstorms with lightning are anticipated in areas such as Balasore, Cuttack, and Khurda, among others.
Rainfall warning for East India:
In the eastern regions of India, specifically Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Odisha, there is a strong likelihood of experiencing light to moderate rainfall, along with widespread thunderstorms and lightning, from October 1-4. Isolated areas within these regions may also encounter heavy rainfall during this period.
Similarly, Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar should brace for similar weather conditions lasting from October 1-5. Additionally, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands can expect rain and thunderstorms on October 1, 4 and 5. Notably, Bihar is at risk of isolated very heavy rainfall from October 1-3, while Jharkhand and Odisha can anticipate heavy rainfall today, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on October 3.
Rainfall warning for Northeast India:
Assam & Meghalaya are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall, widespread thunderstorms, and lightning, with isolated heavy rainfall on October 1-5. Similarly, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura should prepare for similar weather conditions on October 1, 3 and 4. Arunachal Pradesh should be on alert for these conditions on October 3-4.
Rainfall warning for Central and South India:
Central India, specifically Chhattisgarh, is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy rainfall from October 1-3. East Madhya Pradesh should also prepare for similar weather conditions on October 2. Kerala & Mahe should anticipate similar conditions today.
