The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest release has warned that heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are most likely to continue over the plains of Northwest India and heat wave conditions over Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat State during the next 5 days. On the contrary, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to continue over the southern region of India today.

Over the next two days, there is a good chance that the southwest monsoon will continue to move over some further areas of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea. It will extend to the remaining portions of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and some areas of the east-central Bay of Bengal. A low pressure area has developed over the Southeast Arabian Sea off the coast of Kerala due to the effect of the cyclonic circulation over south Kerala and its surroundings.
IMD’s Heatwave Prediction
According to IMD’s weather bulletin, heat wave conditions, ranging from severe to extreme, are highly probable in most or all of Rajasthan between May 24 to May 27, in some or all of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between May 24 and May 27, in West Uttar Pradesh between May 26 and 27, and in a few isolated areas of Delhi between May 24 and 27, 2024. Red alert regions include the Gujarat region, West Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and West Bengal.
Warning for Fishermen
It is recommended that fishermen avoid fishing in the South Bay of Bengal today, the Central Bay of Bengal until May 26th, and the North Bay of Bengal starting from today and continuing until the morning of May 27th. It is urged that fishermen who are out at sea come to land.
Heavy Rainfall Prediction
The weather regulator has indicated that there is chance of isolated heavy rainfall on May 24, in Lakshadweep; on May 24 and 25, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal; on May 25 coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Kerala; and on May 25.
Possible isolated periods of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on May 23, 2024, over Kerala and Mahe, and May 24, over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. On May 23, 2024, there will probably be isolated, extremely severe rainfall over Kerala and Mahe. It is quite probable that there will be widespread mild to moderate rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the following seven days, along with isolated severe rainfall on May 24–25, 2024.
