The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts for rainfall in multiple regions of North West, South, and East India until October 16. The weather department predicts the occurrence of light to isolated heavy rainfall, often accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in various areas.
On October 12 and 16, South Interior Karnataka is likely to experience this weather phenomenon. Additionally, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are expected to witness similar conditions on October 13 and 16.
Alert level raised in Kerela
Kerala has already faced heavy rainfall, prompting the IMD to issue an orange alert for three out of the state’s 14 districts. Seven more districts in Kerala, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki, are under a yellow alert for Friday.
In its latest bulletin, the IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms for various regions. Jammu-Kashmir-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan will experience these conditions on specific dates.
For East India, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall at isolated or some places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal over the next five days, followed by a reduction in rainfall. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at many places for the next five days.
Withdrawal of southwest monsoon
The IMD also mentioned the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from various regions, including parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Central Arabia Sea over the next two days.
Furthermore, the IMD noted the presence of a cyclonic circulation over North Tamil Nadu and a trough extending from this circulation to the Comorin area in lower tropospheric levels. A fresh western disturbance is anticipated to impact the Western Himalayan Region from October 13th and the plains of North West India from October 14, 2023.
