An active western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from tomorrow while the plains of northwest India from March 1-3 next month, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned.

Under its influence, isolated heavy snowfall and rainfall are likely in hilly regions like Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh early next month. 

Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is also likely over Uttarakhand and Punjab on March 2. The active western disturbance is set to attain peak intensity on March 1 and 2. High moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea to northwest India is also likely during the same period, IMD mentioned. 

Rainfall and hailstorms in parts of the country 

The weather department has predicted rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning over central & adjoining east India. 

Rainfall activity accompanied by gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal .

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Bangladesh and neighborhoods in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura is predicted today 

Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is also likely in states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi on March 1 and 2. 

Hailstorm activity is also likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on March 1 and 2. States like Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh may also see spells of hailstorms.

Delhi to witness clear sky

As per the MeT department forecast, Delhi may mainly see clear sky today with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 26 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively.

On Tuesday, the mercury in the national capital recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.

Traces of rainfall were recorded in parts of Delhi in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday, according to IMD. 

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature rose by a few notches in the morning, setting at 12.3 degrees Celsius at 8.30 am on Feb 27.
