People in North India will experience foggy mornings and cold day conditions during the next 4-5 days. Some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan will see chilly weather till January 22, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest weather forecast mentioned. 

Besides, dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail for a few hours late night/morning over some parts of northern and other parts of the country including Uttarakhand, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and northeastern states like Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till January 19. 

Cold wave to continue in Delhi 

Meanwhile, in the national capital, cold day conditions prevailed for the seventh consecutive day on Wednesday with the maximum temperature settling at 18.2 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 5.7 degrees Celsius at 9.05 am. The mercury in Delhi in the last few days had dropped to 3.2 degrees Celsius, making the mornings extremely cold.

As per the weather forecast agency, the temperature in Delhi is predicted to be in the range of 5-21 degrees Celsius till January 22, marking the prolonged cold wave conditions. 

Himachal and Uttarakhand receive season’s first snowfall

Upper parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand received season’s snowfall marking the end of the winter dry period. Shimla’s upper regions including Narkanda, Chanshal, and Hatu Peak, along with other elevated terrains such as Khada Pathar and Churdhar Peak received light snowfall on Wednesday evening. As per MeT Department, continued snowfall in these high-altitude areas of the Shimla district is possible today.

Meanwhile, following a prolonged wait, Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district witnessed the onset of snowfall on Wednesday. Significant snowfall was reported in key locations such as Badrinath Dham, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of Flowers, Rudranath, Niti Valley, and Mana Valley. Even Hanumanchatti saw a blanket of snow.

Owing to the jet stream winds over the plains of North India, light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over higher reaches of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand is predicted.
