Northwest and Central India are bracing for a bout of inclement weather as Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predict a series of rainfall spells accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail across the regions. From April 13-15, Central India is expected to experience a continuation of light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm activity, particularly peaking today. 

Meanwhile, Northwest India is slated to encounter a similar weather pattern from April 13-15, with the most intense conditions anticipated on April 13-14. 

Delhi to see drop in temperature  

The weather office has forecast generally cloudy skies on Saturday, with light rain, dust storms, and thunder showers accompanied by gusty winds during the evening. No heatwave conditions were predicted for the national capital in April. 

According to the weather department’s latest update on Friday, the maximum temperature in the national capital is anticipated to decrease significantly from the current 39 degrees Celsius to around 33 degrees Celsius over the next two days. “The maximum temperature is expected to drop by four to five degrees Celsius in the upcoming two days as the capital will experience showers of rain and be covered with cloudy skies due to the active western disturbance which will hit northwest India on Friday,” scientist and head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, Kuldeep Srivastava said. 

The weather department has forecasted the arrival of an active western disturbance in northwest India by late Friday night, originating from Jammu. Its impact is expected to reach Delhi late night on April 13th, persisting until April 14th, as stated by meteorological experts. 

Weather prediction for Central India

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) from April 13-14. Hailstorm activity is also anticipated at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh on April 13.

Weather prediction for Eastern Regions

Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands may witness isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning during April 13-14, providing relief from the prevailing dry weather conditions.

Weather prediction for Southern Regions

Telangana, Kerala & Mahe, and Interior Karnataka are likely to experience isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over the next 7 days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh-Yanam, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry-Karaikal should also brace for similar weather conditions from April 13-15. Hailstorm activity is predicted at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh on April 13.

Weather prediction for Northern Regions

Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand can expect isolated light rainfall/snowfall on April 12th, followed by fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) from April 13-15. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during April 13-15, with Himachal Pradesh experiencing it on April 14-15.

Isolated hailstorms are likely over various regions, including Jammu, Rajasthan on April 13; Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana on April 13-14; and Uttarakhand & West Uttar Pradesh on April 14. A dust storm (50-60 kmph) is very likely over Rajasthan today.

Weather prediction for Northwestern Regions

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected over Northwest Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana during April 13-15. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Rajasthan during April 13-15.
