A prolonged wet spell and dense fog conditions are expected to continue their grip in the northwest and nearby central India due to ongoing weather disturbances. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in specific regions, whereas dense fog and cold day conditions are likely to prevail over northern states.

Delhi/NCR weather update

For Delhi-NCR, dense fog is forecast to take place on Monday morning with maximum and minimum temperatures to be around 19 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius. The Weather Department has predicted an orange alert for the same. Smog and moderate fog are expected to be present during the night.

Wet spell and thunderstorms prediction

The current western disturbance is positioned as a cyclonic circulation over Punjab, under its influence it will bring showers and thunderstorms. Light to moderate downpours is predicted to take place in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Assam on January 13. Similar weather conditions will prevail in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Tamil Nadu from January 13 to January 15, Kerala may experience it from January 13 to January 16.

Snowfall and rainfall prediction

The Met Department has warned about a new western disturbance which is likely to impact northwest India from the night of January 14. This weather conditions are expected to bring scattered showers and snowfall from Ladakh, Jammu-Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, and Baltistan from January 16 to January 18. Himachal Pradesh will witness it from January 15 to January 18 and Uttarakhand will receive it from January 15 to January 17.

Isolated rainfall is expected to occur over Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana from January 15 to January 16. East Rajasthan will be impacted by it from January 14 to January 15 and west Rajasthan on January 15.

Dense fog and cold day alert

Cold day conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Delhi, West Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana on January 13.  Meanwhile, dense fog has been projected to be present in the night and early morning hours in Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab from January 13 to January 14, Rajasthan will experience it on January 13, Uttar Pradesh from January 13 to January 16 and Himachal Pradesh is expected to get it from January 13 to January 15. Likewise, northeastern states like Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Assam will have it from January 13 to January 16.
