Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan called the explosion as a “bomb blast” and said that investigations are on and the police will find those who are behind it, reports PTI.

“At 1 PM, a bomb blast occurred at the hotel (cafe), nine people are injured, and no one is serious. We are investigating. FSL (forensic) teams have come and are checking. City police commissioner and other officers are at the spot. We will certainly identify who did it,” the cop said after visiting the spot.

Speaking to reporters, he said no one has suffered serious injuries and the injured — both staff and customers — are being treated in hospital.

Asked whether an improvised explosive device (IED) was used for the blast, he said, “We are checking. Let’s not say anything now itself. The FSL team has come and they are checking. Once they collect (samples from the spot), we will examine.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said investigations are on to ascertain the cause and nature of the explosion at popular eatery, adding that it might have been caused by an “improvised explosive device”.

The Chief Minister emphasized that those implicated in the incident would face severe consequences, and measures would be taken against the perpetrators.

“Based on the details I’ve received, a bag was left unattended after 12 PM. Investigations are underway,” Siddaramaiah informed reporters in Mysuru. “All the individuals injured are reported to be in stable condition.”

“We are scrutinizing CCTV footage and other evidence. It has come to our attention that a bag was left unattended, leading to what appears to be an improvised explosive blast. Further investigation is ongoing.”

When questioned about the nature of the event as a terrorist act, the CM replied that it remains uncertain, and inquiries are ongoing.

“This wasn’t a widespread explosion; it was an improvised explosive blast. Similar incidents have occurred previously, which is regrettable. We must wait for further details. Apart from the incident in Mangaluru during the BJP’s tenure, there haven’t been such occurrences recently. This marks the first incident during our administration,” he elaborated.

Emphasizing that the incident shouldn’t be politicized and urging cooperation from all, Siddaramaiah assured that stringent measures would be taken against those responsible.
