The vehicular movement on Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 will remain suspended for the whole day today on May 21, said Rohit Baskotra, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, National Highway, as per an ANI report.

According to the report, the SSP stated that no movement of any kind of vehicle including fresh, perishable livestock, security forces shall be allowed on NH-44 on May 21.

J&K vehicular movement restriction

Not just today, vehicular movement also saw some restrictions on the state on May 20 as well.

“Today (May 20), no vehicular movement shall be allowed on Jammu-Srinagar NHW after 6 pm from Qazigund towards Banihal, Ramban, Doda-Kishtwar, Udhampur, Jammu and vice versa and from Nagrota (Jammu)from 5 pm, from Udhampur; from 6 pm towards Patnitop, Doda-Kishtwar, Ramban, Gool, Banihal, Srinagar and vice versa,” ANI cited Baskotra as saying on May 20.

He did not specify the exact reason for this restriction and said there were multiple reasons. He advised people to cooperate with the Traffic Police and plan their journeys accordingly.

The J&K Traffic Police posted on X, formerly Twitter, about the restriction.

“Vehicular movement on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) will remain suspended on 21-05-2024 (Tuesday). No movement of any kind of vehicle including Fresh perishable/livestock/security forces shall be allowed on NH-44”, said the post on X.

Details of restriction

In another post, J&K Traffic Police detailed the traffic restrictions as follows:

Kishtwar- Sinthan- Anantnag NH-244

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement (only LMVs) on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road will be allowed from both directions, Anantnag to Kishtwar and vice versa, said the post on X. The traffic police also mentioned that these vehicles will be permitted between 0900 hrs and 1300 hrs from Daksum and Chingam (Chatroo). However, no vehicles will be allowed after the cut-off time.

SSG ROAD

According to the J&K Traffic Police’s X account, subject to fair weather and good road conditions (after getting the green signal from road maintenance agencies), only one-way traffic (LMVs/HMVs) from Kargil towards Srinagar on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road will be allowed. LMVs followed by HMVs will be permitted from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 0700 hrs and 1100 hrs. Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains for better grip on the slippery road. No vehicles will be allowed without anti-skid chains or after the cut-off time.

Mughal Road

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides viz, said the post on X. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa and HMVs (upto 10 tyres) shall be allowed from Shopian towards Poonch. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs. after a green signal from road agencies. However, Bhaderwah-Chamba road is open for vehicular movement.
