Varanasi court on Thursday fixed February 15 for hearing a petition against puja in cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque premises, the Hindu side counsel said. The plea was filed by Anjuman Intezamia Masjid committee, which manages the mosque, reports PTI.
Advocate M M Yadav said District Judge Anil Kumar told the court that since Allahabad High Court was scheduled to hear the case on February 12, there was no point in hearing the matter now, and posted it for February 15.
The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday heard the plea filed by the mosque committee challenging an order passed by the Varanasi district court allowing puja to be done in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque. Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal didn’t pass an order and listed the matter for February 12.
The district court on January 31 allowed puja in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. On the same night, the southern cellar was opened and a priest performed prayers.
The order was also challenged by the mosque committee in the Supreme Court, which asked it to move the Allahabad High Court.
