Nainital rape case: The Director of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth on Saturday assured that the probe into the rape of a minor girl in Nainital will be completed in a timely manner and the accused will face harsh legal action. According to the ANI report, he confirmed that law and order in the area continue to be under control as extra police have been deployed to prevent any disturbance.

Accused arrested

DGP Seth told ANI that the case came to light on April 30, after which an FIR was immediately filed and the accused was arrested. ”On 30 April, an incident of rape with a minor girl in Nainital came o light. Immediately, an FIR was registered in the matter. The accused had been held and sent to jail. Police have taken all measures to protect the victim and her family,” he mentioned. ”We will ensure that the probe is conducted in a time-bound manner and the accused gets a harsh punishment.”

The incident raised concerns across the state, prompting top officials to issue a public statement of reassurance and condemn the crime.

Uttarakhand CM extend assurance

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also conveyed solidarity to the victim’s family over the phone and has offered support. According to the official statement from the Chief Minister’s office, ”The Chief Minister said that the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances and they will be given the strictest punishment. He talked about ensuring a quick investigation and speedy justice in the case.”

The National Commission for Women (NCW) also commented on the incident, calling it a ”horrific crime” and urging immediate action. The Commission has also posted on X, stating, ”NCW has taken cognizance and Hon’ble Chairperson has sent a letter to the DGP of Uttarakhand to ensure swift action, victim support, and a time-bound fair investigation.”

Local police have also confirmed the arrest and mentioned that the situation in Nainital continues to be stable.
